1. Light intensity

Scientists have found a linear relationship between light intensity and CO2 fixation rate at low light intensities. At higher light intensities , the photosynthesis rate do not show further increase as other factors become limiting .The light saturation occurs at 10% of the total sun light available to plants.

2.Light quality

Light between 400 -700nm constitute the photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Maximum photosynthesis take place in red and blue light of visible spectrum.

3.Carbon dioxide concentration

It is the major limiting factor influencing the rate of photosynthesis . C₃ plants respond to high CO₂ conc. by showing increased rate of photosynthesis , leading to higher productivity. this has been useful in production of greenhouse crops like tomato and bell pepper.

4.Temperature

Temperature optimum for photosynthesis of different plants depends on the habitat they are adapted to. Tropical plants have higher temperature optimum than the plants adapted to temperate climates.

5. Water

Water is very important for photosynthesis . Water stress makes the leaf wilt, thus reducing the surface area as well as the metabolic activity as well.

6.Chlorophyll

It is most important because light energy is trapped only by this substance . There will be no photosynthesis without this in the leaf. Photosynthetic number shows the linear relationship between chlorophyll and photosynthesis.
