Transcription is the process of rewriting DNA. DNA molecules are made from 4 different nucleotides which acts as building blocks. These building blocks are adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine. When put together in different chemical combinations they become directions for the functions of the cell molecules which are primarily proteins. When a certain protein is needed, the RNA polymerase enzyme will find the gene for that particular protein and makes an RNA copy of it. DNA and RNA have similar make ups so they can attach to one another like the two strands of the DNA double helix do and when that happens, the RNA polymerase travels along the gene matching the DNA and RNA nucleotides in the gene.

  1. RNA polymerase binds to the promoter, sequence in DNA, which points it in the right direction to copy the gene
  2. RNA polymerase uses a DNA strand to build the sequence for the new RNA molecule
  3. Base-pairing allows for the RNA molecule to be a mirror image of the code found in the DNA
  4. The end of the genes has a unique sequence called a terminatorwhich stops transcription. The RNA folds into itself at the end causing the RNA polymerase to fall off the DNA

chromosomes=file cabinet...when cells need information they look in the file cabinet and take out a file (gene) and make a copy of the information (RNA molecule) that they can travel around the world (cytoplasm) with. a copy is made because its best to keep the blueprint(DNA) safely locked away.

Explanation of the concept is partially accurate. This is because many points are correct but some points are incorrect too. The points that are inaccurate are:

1. DNA and RNA can attach to each other like double helix of DNA. This is incorrect because , in DNA two strand run antiparallel to each other to form a stable complex.

2. Yes, the RNA have mirror image of the DNA. But it is partially accurate because RNA do not have thymine and have uracil.

I. Initiation :

In this process, firstly, some specific proteins known as transpiration factor attaches to the promoter region and bind with it. They help in the attachment of RNA polymerase to the promoter region.

II. Elongation

In this process, new RNA strand is synthesized that require ATP and presence of many enzymes.

III. Termination

RNA strand will made till it reaches a poly A signal and terminator sequence present in DNA.
