One end of a light hacksaw blade is clamped in a vise with the long axis of the blade horizontal and with the sides vertical. A 0.785- kg mass is attached to the free end. When a steady sideways force of 25.5 N is applied to the mass it moves aside 11.8 cm from its equilibrium position. When released, the blade moves back and forth with harmonic motion. Approximately how many complete oscillations will the blade make in 20.0 s when the force is removed?

One end of a spring with a force constant of k 10.0 N/m is attached to the end of a long horizontal frictionless track and the other end is attached to a mass m = 2.20 kg which glides along the track. After you establish the equilibrium position of the mass-spring system, you move the mass in the negative direction (to the left), compressing the spring 1.73 m. You then release the mass from rest and start your stopwatch, that...

A block weighing 22 N oscillates at one end of a vertical spring for which k = 120 N/m; the other end of the spring is attached to a ceiling. At a certain instant the spring is stretched 0.27 m beyond its relaxed length (the length when no object is attached) and the block has zero velocity. (a) What is the net force on the block at this instant? What are the (b) amplitude and (c) period of the resulting...
