A Zero tolerance policy is is a code of conduct in place at schools that set ground rules for student behavior at school or on campus. Students who violate the terms of a zero-tolerance policy can face a variety of disciplinary measures, ranging from single day suspension to full-out expulsion. A zero tolerance policy refers to a set of rules or guidelines a student at an institution of learning must follow. In schools zero-tolerance policies typically pertain primarily to the prohibition of weapons and drugs or other illegal substances in school.

A zero tolerance policy to handle student misbehaviour is not always a right step against students. A zero tolerance policy says no excuse to student against punishment. In 2008, the American Psychological Association published a report that concluded, “Zero tolerance has not been shown to improve school climate or school safety. zero tolerance policies were unnecessarily preventing children from getting a public education and causing many children to face legal charges for relatively minor offenses. Students who are expelled or sent back home may not have an adult to supervise their activities and they may become more likely to engage in illegal activity. Parents cannot always keep such an environment that the school can.

Every concepts have two approaches in thinking, might be a zero tolerance policy falls right sometimes and sometimes may be not.

Pros of zero tolerance policy :

• An approach to reduces favoritism in schools.

• Develop guidelines to students and as well to parents to follow.

Cons of zero tolerance policy :

• It reduces school safety

• Student expelled from school lack supervision and control over illegal activity.

• Expose children to legal charges for minor offences.

• There is no consistency in policy because it may be discrimantory, how educators apply on his based knowledge.

A School Resources Officer is the one who assist school in maintaining safe learning environment. They are trained to handle various situations. They assist in maintaining order and enforcing school policies on school property. In conjunction with school officials, the SRO will take the appropriate law enforcement action, consistent with a police officer's duty. I thought that the School Resource Officers is the who act as a communication liaison with law enforcement agencies and present programs to parents on issues related to tobacco, alcohol and other drug's prevention and safety.

In my opinion school should try harder to keep students in school before suspending or expelling them from school. Because it is the learning phase for students, where student learn what is right and what is not through a knowledge given by teachers. And at learning phase there is a consequences that sometimes students do sometime which is against the policies at such time such students need to counsel well make such students know the right one. And mandatory program, seesions need to offered to prevent them from doing do future. And also have to make aware of the punishment rules and laws on violating the safety environment of school. But in one sense every such student must given one chance before expelled from school.
