Economic development grew rapidly during the 18th Century in Western Europe and the Americas and Industrial Revolution was started to begin. During the 19th century economic and industrial growth come together and different scientific discovery and invention was started. Old ideas of infectious disease epidemiology like incidence, distribution, and control of diseases come in virology and bacteriology. The Hippocratic Corpus was first invented the modern medicine. Hippocrates invented the Hippocratic Oath for physicians which is still applicable and in use today.
The Industrial Revolution was started in 18th Century in Britain which was followed by similar revolutions in many countries over the developed world. At the end of the 18th Century Jenner discovered and introduced the first vaccines against smallpox. During this the 18th and 19th Centuries, people realized that disease caused by germs. 1st Louis Pasteur came up with the germ theory.
The 18th and 19th Centuries, most of the problems related to surgery were solved. Pare had already solved the problem of bleeding, and in the 18th Century, doctors were able to understand how to make surgery painless. To solve the problem of pain during surgery James Simpson invented the first anaesthetics. Alexander Fleming discovered that penicillium In 1928 .After World War 2, the British government understand that anti-biotics would be needed. Thus, medicine was reform in the 19th century and old ideas of infectious disease epidemiology were replaced by advances in bacteriology and virology.
18th to 19th century is the milestone of modern medicine. One remarkable medical advance late in the century was vaccination. Against smallpox and now it is widely prevalent. During the 18th century public health and hygiene were receiving more attention. In the 19th century scientific developments had influenced on understanding health and disease and experimental research resulted in new knowledge in histology, pathology and microbiology.
