To balance the reactions use the following steps:-

1. balance all the atoms except hydrogen and oxygen.

2. balancing the O atoms - In acidic medium to balance O atoms add H2O molecules in deficient side and twice of H+ ions on the other side.

To balance the O atoms in basic medium add H2O molecule in richer side of oxygen and twice of OH- ions on the other side.

3. balancing the H atoms - to balance H atoms add H+ ions to the deficient side.

4. balancing the charge- to balance the charge add e- to defecient side of charge.

So, the balanced equation obtained after following these steps is:-

SO42- + 4H+ +2e- = H2SO3 + H2O

thus , coffecient of H+ is 4
