Answer #1

Buffer solution resist change in its pH when strong acid or base is added to it.

There are two types of buffer solutions :

1. Acidic Buffer Solution

2. Basic Buffer Solution

1. Acidic Buffer : This buffer solutions are made from a weak acid and one of its salt - often a sodium salt. pH of these buffer solutions is less than 7.

2. Basic Buffer : Alkaline buffer solutions are commonly made from a weak base and one of its salts. pH of these buffer solution is more than 7.

Now looking through the option

(i) Incorrect. Strong acids cannot form buffer solution.

(ii) Incorrect. Mixture of Strong acid and Strong Base cannot form buffer solution.

(iii) Correct. Weak acid (HCN) is there. Salt of weak acid is also present( LiCN).

(iv) Incorrect. Strong Acid cannot form buffer solution.

(v) Incorrect. Weak Acid is there but its corresponding salt is not present. Salt is KI which has a different anionic part which is not acceptable for a buffer solution.
