Answer #1

Leptothrix is an iron bacteria which inhabit in water containing iron compounds. They oxidise ferrous to ferric ions. The ferric ions is deposited as insoluble ferric hydroxide. Fe2+ + Fe3+ + energy

The process of oxidation of iron (ferrous) is so rapid that the energy released is conserved and convert CO2 to biomass. So the iron bacteria like Leptothrix have generated mechanism to manage the end products during iron oxidation, because large amount of energy can be conserved from the oxidation of ferrous to ferric iron.

Heme is the iron-containing structure in the proteins hemoglobin and myoglobin. In red blood cells, hemoglobin enables oxygen uptake and transport. Myoglobin in muscle cells helps oxygen enter the cells. The oxygen carried by hemoglobin and myoglobin is critical for energy production. Because meat contains hemoglobin and myoglobin, beef, fish, and poultry contain more heme iron than most plant foods. The remaining iron in meat, as well as all the iron in vegetables, grains, dietary supplements, and fortified or enriched...

    26. Why did Jessie’s carnitine deficiency cause her to have abnormally low plasma glucose levels at the end of a fasting study, when compared to a healthy person who has fasted for the same length of time? In the absence of carnitine, the liver stores large amounts of glycogen; absorption of glucose to create these stores depletes blood glucose Carnitine acts as a hormone and stimulates glucose release from the liver; lack of carnitine results in loss of hepatic glucose...

    5. Why are simple stains able to "stick” to bacteria? Explain the chemical properties of the stain and bacteria surface. 3-Preparation of Bacterial Smears and Simple Stains Introduction Microbial cultures are handled using aseptic technique. Aseptie technique is a set of procedures used to minimize contamination of materials by microorganisms from the environment, and to minimize the spread of cultures around the laboratory. In this experiment, you will be using an inoculating loop to transfer bacteria from a culture tube...

Dynamic Energy Wares (DEW) manufactures and distributes products that are used to save energy and to help reduce and reverse the harmful environmental effects of atmospheric pollutants. DEW relies on a relatively complex distribution system to get the products to its customers. Large companies, which account for nearly 30% of the firm’s total sales, purchase directly from DEW. Smaller companies and retailers that sell to individuals are required to make their purchases from one of the 50 independent distributors that...
