In your in-class activities two weeks ago, we asked you about a population of spruce warblers living on a remote tropical island. This week, consider a different population of spruce warblers living on a different tropical island. Like that previous week’s population, the size of these warblers’ feet is determined by one gene with two alleles: F and f. These alleles show incomplete dominance, with FF individuals having large feet, Ffhaving medium feet, and ff having small feet. You capture 100 of these birds and count the following:

15 have large feet

64 have medium feet

21 have small feet

b) Is this population in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium? Be sure to work through the calculations and show your work.

Answer #1

The warbler population is not in Hardy- Weinberg Equilibrium as the expected numbers and observed numbers are not same.

The explanation is provided below:

Phenotype Senetype Number (observed) large feet - F - Nr=15 medium feet - ff - NF = 64 small feet - If - N = 21 Total = N = 1Phenotype obrowed (0) Expected (0) CO-E) (0-6)? large feet 15 22 -7 49 (0. 42 = 2.23 64 50 114 196 195 = 3.92 Medium fect 50

Question1 2 pts A population of ferrets with a neutral allele F governing coat color. F shows incomplete dominance such that FF ferrets are black, Ff ferrets are grey, and ff ferrets are white. They migrate from the mainland, where the F allele is at an abundance of 50%, to three islands. These islands differ in size one small, one medium-sized, and one large. The larger islands can support more ferrets. A stable population of 50 ferrets lives on the...

You lead a research team that finds two non-migrating Southern Hemisphere populations of bunyips that are isolated from one another: one on a very cold island near Antarctica, and one on a tropical and very pleasant island near the equator. Through observation and experiments, you realize that cold tolerance is controlled by a single locus you uncreatively call cold, with three alleles: A, a, and X. You also find out that A mutates into either a or X at an...

For this exercise we will be re-enacting founder effect on a population of hypothetical people. You can use red and white beans (or any other small household item that comes in two colors) to complete the exercise. The beans will represent genes and the different colors will represent different alleles (gene variants). Red beans will represent the dominant (R) allele for the trait, while white beans will represent the recessive (r) allele. Humans have two copies of each gene, so...

    5. Fur colour in mice is a single gene trait controled by two alleles. In a population of 75 mice, 21 are homozygous dominant, 37 are heterozygous dominant, and 17 are homozygous recessive. What is the frequency of the dominant allele in the population? Show all work and record your answer as a value between O and 1 rounded to two decimal places 6. In a population of Gragons, there are 3151 A1A1, 1678 A1A2 and 2014 A2A2 individuals. If the environment changes so that the homozygous recessive genotype suffers a reduction of fitness where its fitness is now 0.73, but the other genotypes are unaffected, what will be the frequency...

please help me with these problems. thank you Introduction The Island of Daphne Major, one of several islands that make up the archipelago of islands off the coast of Ecuador, supports a population of ground finches, Geospiza fortis. Finches are small songbirds with chunky beaks which they use to crack open seeds from various shrubs and trees on the island. These seeds make up most of the finch diet. Biologists have been studying this population for over 30 years. Each...
