1. Components of an ATP molecule
i. Adenine base
ii. Ribose sugar
iii. Three phosphate groups

2. ATP is the universal cellular energy currency
i.e. All living organisms both prokaryotes and eukaryotes utilize ATP as the energy source.

3. Aerobic respiration:
Glucose + 6O2 --------> 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy

Photosynthesis:
6CO2 + 12H2O -------> Glucose + 6O2 + 6H2O

In respiration, glucose is oxidized to produce CO2.
In photosynthesis, CO2 is reduced to produce glucose.

4. Oxidation:
i. Loss of electrons
ii. Increase in oxidation number
Reduction:
i. Gain of electrons
ii. Decrease in oxidation number
