Answer #1

The genotype of the animal is FF GG hh II JJ.

Thus the animal has the proteins F, G, I and J but lacks the protein product H.

For pathway 1 shown in the figure, the animal has only the gene products F, J, and G and lacks H. Thus the organism can produce red and yellow.

For pathway 2 shown in the figure, the animal has genes I and G but lacks H. Thus, this pathway stays inactive altogether.

Hence the organism produces compound yellow from pathway 1 and colorless 1 from pathway 2.

QUESTION 1 A new kind of pet is in the market has fur color that is regulated by 5 unlinked genes F, G, H, I and J which are enzymes. Each enzyme converts one compound into a different one. Allele F converts the colorless 1 compound into a red compound. Allele G converts colorless 2 into yellow. Allele H converts colorless 1 into colorless 2. I converts colorless 2 to red. Allele J converts red into yellow. When both the...

A customer brings in some hamsters to a pet store, some have gold fur and some have black fur.The pet store owner has never come across golden fur hamsters and he doesn’t know if gold fur is dominant or recessive to black and he doesn’t know the genotypes of each of the hamsters. He crosses one golden hamster to one black hamster multiple times. They have over 60 babies; all of them have golden fur. a.From the information above: i.Is...

There is a two locus, two allele system where the ‘E’ locus codes for flower color and (EE) gives red flowers and (ee) gives white flowers and (E) is dominant. The second locus controls seed color and has two alleles, (YY) gives yellow seeds and (yy) gives green seeds and (Y) is dominant. Assuming these loci are on different chromosomes (that is, they are unlinked) what will be the genotype frequencies of the offspring be in a cross between EE...

1.Certain characteristics, like coat color in many animals, is influenced by multiple genes. The phenomenon during which the presence of a homozygous recessive genotype at one locus "overrides" or masks the phenotype that would otherwise be produced by the alleles at another locus (regardless of whether they are dominant or recessive) is called: pleiotropy codominance Punnett effect recessive Epistasis 2. Which of the following would be considered a pleiotropic gene? A gene that-along with several others-influences a single phenotype, such...

    2) Recently the locus that controls fur color in cats has been identified. Two alleles for this locus (black and white) exist with the white allele being recessive. Upon sequencing the mucleotides of these alleles it was found they differed in a single nucleotide (T to G transition) To identify the region in which this mutation occurred, scientists performed a Southern blotting from pure-bred black (B) and white (W) cats. After digesting genomic DNA with three restriction enzymes (Hind Il....
