Two round seed peas were crossed. What would the offspring phenotype/s be?

A. All of the offspring would have round seeds.

B. 3/4 of the offspring would have round seeds, 1/4 of the offspring would have wrinkled seeds.

C. All of the offspring would have wrinkled seeds.

Answer #1

Soulution:

It is said that two round seed peas are crossed.

so the parents genotype can be either RR or Rr, because R is a dominant allele and shows its dominancy in both Homozygous and Heterozygous forms.

So the cross will be

1. RR X RR

R R
R RR RR
R RR RR

all the resulting genotype is RR, which stands for Round seeds. All offsprings will be round in shape.

2. The second probability is RR X Rr

R r
R RR Rr
R RR Rr

in this case the resulting genotype is RR and Rr, and here also both depicts for round seeds. Hence all progenies will be round in shape.

3. Third possible cross is Rr X Rr

R r
R RR Rr
r Rr rr

in this cross the resultings genotypes are one RR, two Rr and one rr.

i.e out of 4 progenies 3 ( one RR and two Rr) will be round seeds and 1 ( rr) will be wrinkled in shape.

so out of 4, 3 will be round i.e 3/4 will be round and 1/4 will be wrinkled.

so option A and B can be the answer, but we cannot choose both A and B, we have an option (D) This cant be predicted from the given information.

Mendel crossed peas having round seeds and yellow cotyledons (seed leaves) with peas having wrinkled seeds and green cotyledons. All the F1 plants had round seeds with yellow cotyledons. Based on this cross, what is the probability that an organism in the F2 generation will have round seeds and green cotyledons and NOT be true breeding?
