Answer #1

Since the character for seed structure has two alleles , the Round seed allele (R), dominat and the wrinkled seed allele (r), recessive, the genotype and phenotype of millet seed coat texture will be

Data Table 1

GENOTYPE PHENOTYPE RR Round Rr Round rr Wrinkled

Punnet Square 1

Punnet Square obtained by the Cross between  Parents ( Rr X rr )

r r
R Rr Rr
r rr rr

"Rr" Heterozygous dominant represent Round Seed and "rr" homozygous recessive represent wrinkled seed.

Phenotype ratio of offspring in punnet square

Round : Wrinkled = 2:2 i.e to 1:1

Genotype ratio of offspring in punnet square

Rr : rr = 2:2 i.e 1:1

Offspring expected to be round is 50% and expected to be wrinkled is also 50% (since phenotype ratio of offspring i.e Round: Wrinkled is 1:1)

Data Table 2

Genoptype Ratio

(Rr : rr)

Phenotype Ratio

(Round : Wrinkled)

% of offspring to be round % off offspring to be wrinkled
1:1 1:1 50% 50%

Two true breeding strains of peas, one with yellow and round seeds and the other with green and wrinkled seeds, were crossed. All the F1plants had yellow and round seeds. When these F1 plants were test crossed to the green and wrinkled parental strain, the following offspring were obtained: 30 yellow and round; 20 green and round; 26 yellow and wrinkled; 28 green and wrinkled. How many different combinations of alleles are possible among the gametes produced by an individual that is heterozygous for 5 separate (unlinked) genes? five ten sixteen thirty- two Consider a pea plant heterozygous for two dichotomous traits. flower color: PP and P_p = purple flowers; pp = white flowers. seed shape: RR and Rr = round seeds; rr = wrinkled seeds. In this tutorial you will examine dihybrid crosses: crosses where alleles at separate loci assort independently into gametes at meiosis. You will also use logic to determine unknown genotypes, phenotypes, and genetic ratios from given data. Part A - Deducing phenotypes and genotypes of selfed parents Mendel studied pea plants dihybrid for seed shape (round versus wrinkled) and seed color (yellow versus green). Recall that the round allele (R) is dominant to the wrinkled allele (r) and the yellow allele...
