Answer-

20-a) Ths is an example of complementary gene interaction, a type of non-allelic gene interaction in which two gene pairs which are present on separate loci but influence the same trait, but either of them if present alone does not produce the phenotypic trait. Two genes, A and B are involved in this inheritance pattern. Tall phenotype is only produced if both dominant genes are present, i.e. genotype is A_B_. If any dominant gene is absent , this will result in dwarf phenotype. Genotype of dwarf plant is A_bb, aaB_, aabb.

Picture is given below.

20-b) In true breeding strains, both alleles will be same for a gene. That means these strains will have alleles in homozygous condition. When plants with genotype AaBb is self fertilized, then geotypes with AABB, AAbb, aaBB, aabb will be true breeding strains. Proportion of true breeding strains will be 4/16 = 0.25 or 25%.

A variety of pure-breeding snapdragons produces a tall plant with green seeds (WWSS). A second variety of pure-breeding snapdragons produce a short plant with white seeds (wwss). The two varieties are crossed, and the resulting seeds are collected. All of the seeds are green and when planted, they produce all tall plants (WwSs). These tall F1 plants are allowed to self-fertilize. The results for seeds and plant height in the F2 generations are as follows. What is the Х 2...

A homozygous variety of opium poppy (Papaver somniferum Laciniatum) with lacerate leaves was crossed with another homozygous variety with normal leaves. All the Fj had lacerate leaves (jagged-edged leaves). Two F1 plants were crossed to produce the F2. Of the F2, 249 had lacerate leaves and 16 had normal leaves. How are lacerate leaves determined in the opium poppy? two genes, with a dominant allele at either or both loci one gene, with codominant alleles at a single locus two...
