HIV replication in white blood cells requires seven steps- entry, reverse transcription, integration, transcription, translation, assembly, release and maturation.

The replication process starts with the entry of the virus into a cell. After entering the cell reverse transcriptase enzyme converts viral RNA to DNA. It is transferred through the nucleus then; it is inserted into human DNA by HIV integrase enzyme. After insertion, this DNA is called as provirus.

Replication in detail- once integrated into the CD4 cell DNA, HIV begins to use the machinery of the CD4 cells to make long chains of HIV proteins which are the building blocks of more virus particles. Inside the CD4 cell nucleus, HIV releases integrase which is used to insert viral DNA into the CD4 DNA. Now this stage is provirus.
