Answer #1

A - Catabolic, B - Negative, C - Spontaneous, D - Increases, E - chaos F - Oxidized , G - Energized, H - Endergonic.

  • Cellular respiration is a catabolic reaction since glucose is broken down into simpler molecules.
  • It is an exergonic reaction since there is release of energy.
  • It is also an aerobic process since it occurs in the presence of oxygen (as shown in the equation).
  • Exergonic reactions are spontaneous reactions. In these reactions, there is a decrease in enthalpy and there is an increase in entropy.
  • In exergonic reactions, the free energy of reactant is greater than that of the product.
  • The exergonic reactions move forward from a state of 'order' to a state of 'disorder' or 'chaos'.
  • Endergonic reactions are non-spontaneous. They require an input of energy to proceed forward.
  • Here ATP synthesis occurs by utilizing the energy released during cellular respiration.
  • Therefore, ATP synthesis is endergonic reaction.
