Answer #1

4. For a population to be in HWE it should follow the equation p + q = 1.

P = allelic frequency of dominant phenotype

q = allelic frequency of recessive genotype

So , q = √ 64/400 = 0.4

So frequency of p = 0.6 . & # of individual with dominant genotype = p2 × 400 = 0.6×0.6 × 400 = 144

Individuals with heterozygous phenotype = 2pq × 400 = 192

P2 + q2 + 2pq = 1

.36 + 0.16 + 0.48 = 1 ( so population is in HWE) .

5. p + q + r = 1 ( allelic frequency )

p2 + q2 + r2 + 2pq + 2pr + 2qr = 1 ( genotypic frequency) .

    1. You are studying a population of sandblossoms (Linanthus parryae) that has individuals with blue and white flowers. The allele for white flowers (A) is dominant to the allele for blue flowers (a). In the population you survey, 91 out of 100 individuals have white flowers. Based on this information: a. Calculate the frequency of the A and a alleles. b. Calculate the numbers of each genotype. 2. A population of snapdragons (Antirrhinum hispanicum) has two additive alleles for flower...

How to do part C? B. Now we are going to further test the hypothesis that natural selection is at work with a different population, favoring the retention of the debilitating sickle cell disease (heterozygote dyantape) in a population (Yoruba tribe) exposed to malaria by determining whether or not the population is in Handy Weinberg (HW) equilibrium. The total Number of individuals surveyed in the Yoruba tribe was 12,387. They had the following genotypic breakdown genotype ΗΔΗ HH 9365 (2...
