3.when a minor change in flu virus causes antigenic drift.This mutations in the virus gene lead to changes in surface proteins hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.These antigens are recognized by immune system prompting immunological response.as the virus replicates antigenic drift happens continually.Thus these small chenges accumilate and result in new strain that not recognised by immune system,becoming pandemic.
