Lagging strand

DNA polymerase enzyme is responsible for the polymerization activity of DNA. On the leading strand DNA synthesis is continuous. But on the lagging strand it is discontinuous. It takes place with the formation of many small fragments of DNA. These fragments are called as okazaki fragments. When the process of replication is completed, this fragments are joined together by DNA ligase enzyme.
