According to endosymbiotic theory, mitochondria and chloroplast have originated from prokaryotic ancestors. A prokaryotic organism capable of performing aerobic respiration evolved into mitochondria and the one capable of performing oxygenic photosynthesis evolved into chloroplast.

Large molecules can be exported out of the cell by the process of exocytosis and small molecules can be imported by the process of endocytosis.

Facilitated diffusion is the process by which molecules move across the surface of the cell with the help of protein Carriers along concentration gradient.

Osmosis is the process of movement of solvent molecules along concentration gradient.

Sugars are broken down by enzymes called as glycosidases. Nucleic acids are broken down by enzymes called as nucleases and proteins are broken down by proteases and peptidases.

These molecules can be transported within the cell or outside the cell. It is developed mainly in eukaryotes because they contain membrane of Mitochondria, chloroplast, nucleus, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, vesicles, lysosomes, vacuoles etc.
