Answer #1

Answer 1:

Hydra is a fresh water, multicellular organism that belongs to the Phylum Cnidaria. They can be found in temperate and tropical regions. Hydras have the property to regenerate. They can be in two forms- polyp and medusa. Cells of the hydra are not of the same shape and size.

Answer 2:

No, all cells of the hydra do not have the same function. Some help in contraction and other help in ingestion and digestion.

Answer 3:

No, all the cells in the body do not have identical function. Each cell has a different role to play.

In human body there are 4 types of tissues-

Epithelial tissue: It contains the squamous epithelial cells, columnar epithelial cells and cuboidal epithelial cells.

Connective tissue: They are the cells that link and support other tissues and organs. Bones and blood are the connective tissues.

Muscular tissue: They form the muscles of the body.

Neural tissue: They form the nerve of the body and are composed of special cells called neurons.

Answer 4:

Brine shrimp belong to the phylum Arthropoda. They have cells that help them maintain the osmotic balance of their body.

Answer 5:

Euglena and Paramecium belong to the family of Protists.

    2. Osteocytes are living cells surrounded by hard, mineralized extracellular matrix. With reference to the roles played by each of these labelled components of the osteon, explain: how is it possible for the osteocytes to remain alive despite being almost completely surrounded by impermeable extracellular matrix? You might start by asking yourself: in general, what do cells need in order to stay alive? Think back to your pre-lab work: here is another chance for you to write an explanation, this...

For all these scenarios, assume that different cyanobacteria colonies are all composed of the exact same number of cells. The challenges they face can lead to selection for changes in the relative number of cell types in a colony (but not changes in absolute cell number). Scenario II: Cyanobacteria colony #3 is living in a pond that frequently dries up for extended periods of time, which causes most cells to desiccate and die due to DNA damage and membrane instability....
