Ventilator associated pneumonia is the most common nosocomial infection in the critical care setting. It is assosiated with increased morbidity and increased use of healthcare resources. The epideminology of VAP in the intensive care units of acute care hospitals has been widely characterized.It resulted in the formation of some guidelines, and it associated with significant reduction in the incidence of VAP in the intensive care unit. Long term acute hospitals have been increasingly used to provide post icu care to patients who require prolonged mechanical ventilatory support, little is known about the epidemiology or the microbiology of VAP in the long term acute care hospital settings. Epidemiology and microbiology of central line associated bloodstream infection shows that amoung individuals who are in CICU, many of them are affected by CLABSI. Many patients who develpoed CLABSI sustained a cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, heart failure.

CLABSI or VAP is a serious infection that occurs when germs, usually bacteria or virus enter the bloodstreams through the central line. Because of this the healthcare providers must follow a strict protocol when inseting the line and must make sure that the line remain sterile and also want to make sure that it will not leads to CLABSI. Healthcare providers must use stringent infection control practices each time they the line or change the dressing. Patient who is suffering from CLABSI will have feaver, red skin and soreness around the central line.

CLABSI can be controlled by making the hands of healthcare providers hygiene at the time of insertion of the central line. by applying appropriate skin antiseptic, by using sterile gloves, sterile gown, cap, mask, washing the hands with soap and water before and after touching the line. Healthcare providers must aware of removing central line as soon as it is no longer needed, it will helps to reduce the chance of infection. By making knowledge about the CLABSI rate, discussing their concern with healthcare providers, paying attention towards the bandage and the area around it and making sure the area around bandage is not wet, avoiding the chances of touching tubes as much as possible must help the patients to recover or prevent CLABSI. Every person visiting the patient washing their hands before and after leaving will also helps to prevent the disease.
