Answer #1

1. BOD utilising bacteria in sludge are anaerobic chemoorganohetertrohs as they use organic carbon as source of energy

2, Nitrifying bacteria are microaerophilic chemo litho heterotrophs as they use inorganic sources as substrate.

3. Methanogens in anaerobic sludge digestors are anaerobic chemolithoautotrophs as they can use carbon dioxide as sole source of carbon.

4.Bacteria in microbial electrolysis cells convert organic material to methane and hence are aerobic chemo organo heterotrophs

5. Algae in photobioreactors are aerobic photololithoautotrophs as they require oxygen (aerobic), light (photo), receive nutrients from salts in the media (litho) and can photosynthesize (autotrophs).

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
