Answer #1

Ans : Low population loads have a faster rate of killing.

Rate of microbial death indicates the number of microbes killed by unit time. If the microbial death curve is same for a particular treatment it means that among all populations, the amount of microbes killed per unit time is same. There fore if we start with a population with more number of microbes it takes more time to kill that particular population with treatment.

If we are starting with a population with 1000 microbes and it becomes 100 after 1 hour of treatment, it means 90% of microbes are killed in 1 hour and It becomes 10 in another hour considering that the death rate is constant. Here since the microbial death curve is same for a particular treatment, 90% of all microbial populations will be killed in an hour. But if the number of microbes is more, it will take more time for the treatment to kill that particular population than the others.

For eg : A population with 1000 microbes takes more time to die compared to a population with 100 microbes.

Question 1 (2pts): You are a biologist studying two species of lizards. Lizard Alays eggs in large clutches of 20-50. These clutches are buried and the lizard does not return to tend them. When the young hatch, they suffer high rates of predation. The few that survive grow to adulthood. Lizard B lays only two eggs. It tends to a nest until the young hatch and carries them on its back until they grow large enough to fend for themselves....

In a population of Gragons, there are 3151 A1A1, 1678 A1A2 and 2014 A2A2 individuals.
