I have to do a serial dilution for plating bacteria, and I am given a sample that has been diluted to 10-4 already. I will need to plate the 10-5 and 10-7 dilutions. What will be the steps I will have to do? Note: I cannot use any more tubes/saline outside of what I have been given.

Materials:

2 tubes labelled 10-5 and 10-7.

20ml of sterile saline

5 ml of the 10-4 diluted sample.

Sterile pipettes

Can someone please help me with this question? I tried doing it and I got 2.4x10^8, but I am not sure if that is right. Thanks in advanced. A 1/10 serial dilution of a bacterial culture was performed in tubes "A" through "E" (dilutions were made in that order beginning with tube "A" like in the handout slide titled "Spread Plating"). 100 microliters of the diluted culture from the final tube "E" was spread onto a plate. Following incubation of...

You are given a 1 gram soil sample of unknown bacterial load. After doing 10-fold serial dilutions of the soil in sterile water, 100 uL volumes are taken from each dilution for preparation of pour plates. Following incubation, each half of the 10-8 plate has 46 colonies. a) What was the dilution factor? b) How many bacteria were present in the soil?

    b. 1 ml 1ml 「-I Final dilution 4(1 point) This represents a serial dilution to determine viable bacterial counts. Indicate the final dilutions in each of the two tubes. Note that two different volumes of the cells intube #2 are plated onto agar plates A and B. Indicate the dilution factor that will be used to report the original cell concentration on a per mL basis. 1 ml 1 ml Final dilution in Tube #1 = Final dilution in Tube...

You have performed a serial dilution of a sample with an unknown concentration of microorganisms. You counted 55 CFU on a countable plate inoculated with 0.1 mL of a 10-3 dilution. What was the population density of the original sample per milliliter? Many of the quantitative methods discussed are popular because they enable the microbiology researcher to selectively count live cells only. Why do you think this might be an important or desirable feature in a medical or environmental research...

Given: One ml of the original bacterial culture (tube 0) was added to experiment tube 1, containing 9 ml of media. 7 more experiment tubes were serially diluted in order, the same way, for a total of 8. Each originally contained 9 ml of media, and each received 1 ml from the tube number preceeding it. Two drops from tube #8 were...
