Cortisol hormone is a steroid hormone and released by the adrenal cortex. It is released directly into the blood. Cortisol hormone is responsible for regulating the blood sugar level, fighting against the infections and during stressful situations. It is found that generally, the levels of cortisol are high during the early morning and decreases during the whole day and lowest in the evening. This is ultimately related to the sleeping pattern of the body.

Melatonin is also related to the sleeping patterns of the body and is secreted by the pineal glands in the brain. It is responsible for controlling the sleep-wake cycle and blood pressure. The levels of melatonin fluctuate during the  24 hours of the day. It is generally highest during the evening time and decreases gradually and lowest in the morning time.
