Compact bone are reported to be like solid and the spongy bone on the other hand, consists of a sponge-like arrangement of extracelluar matrix. The osseous tissue of compact bone are reported to be arranged in form of cylindrical osteons near the edge. A central canal is formed at the center of each osteon. Through the central canal blood vessels, lymph vessels, and nerves pass through and gives signal to the cells throughout the compact bone.
