21)

When an error occurs in DNA replication, the cell knows by a mechanism called proof-reading mechanism which is a property of DNA polymerase. If the polymerase detects that a wrong or incorrectly paired nucleotide has been added, the polymerase will remove and replace the incorrect nucleotide right away, before continuing with DNA synthesis.
