Chordata and hemichordata come under the major clades of deuterostome.

Pharyngotremy is the common characteristics shared by both chordata and hemichordata which is also a most primitive deuterostome characteristics . Pharyngotremy is the presence of gill slits into the pharynx .They are used in filter feeding .

Dorsal nerve cord is present only in some species of hemichordata .
