Question

In the following diagram, A and B are two Okazaki fragments generated during DNA replication. Open boxes represent the primers and dotted lines represent the newly synthesized DNA strands.

---- Template DNA

Answer #1

A. The replication fork is moving towards the right . Because the new strand segments in towards the right of the boxes(primer ) .

B. As we know that the replication fork is moving towards the right, the A segment is made before the B segment.

C.i) the enzyme that forms the primer is called Primase . It is a type of RNA polymerase .

ii) The leading strand is formed in the 5' to 3' end continuously with the help of DNA polymerase .

On the other hand the lagging strand is formed in the 3'to 5' end . Enzyme is Primase .

D. Primers are removed by DNA polymerase I .
