Answer #1

Wolbachia-infected male mosquitoes sterilize uninfected female mosquitoes.

Wolbachia a bacterium is found naturally in many insects and it induces cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI) a form of sterility in insects. Thus, wolbachia interferes with mosquito breeding. The eggs laid by uninfected females that breed with infected males will not be able to hatch, whereas infected female mosquitoes breed and produce infected young.
