The Mitochondria are sometimes called the “power house” of the cell because of their role in energy production.Detecting mitochondrial metabolic changes is vital to the understanding of mitochondrial disorders and responses to pharmacological agents. Mitochondrial metabolic changes are so difficult to distinct and hence may be hindered by other cytosolic metabolites obtained using whole organism or whole tissue extractions.By doing Homogenate fraction they limit contamination of cytosolic metabolites in the enriched mitochondrial fraction. Also provide a more accurate quantification of mitochondrial specific metabolites. Using this fraction we can obtain high quantity, quality and variety of metabolites by enriching mitochondria to reveal distinct metabolite shifts and changes.
