In what layer, organic or inorganic, is the DNA during a the phenol:chloroform extraction?
When we add phenol chloroform to the isolation mixture during DNA extraction, than two layers are formed, upper aqueous layer and lower organic layer.
The lower organic layer contains all the biomolecules but the upper aqueous layer contains DNA which is solubilized into it.
The aqueous layer is than transferred to a new tube amd ethanol is added to precipitate out DNA.

In what layer, organic or inorganic, is the DNA during a the phenol:chloroform extraction?
During a solvent extraction, a student lost track of which layer was the aqueous layer and which layer was the organic layer. What simple, non-destructive test could be used to determine which layer is which? a. add a little distilled water to see which layer the water adds to b. obtain a sample of the solution in the seperatory funnel and ultilize IR c. ask the instructor if you can perform a supercritical extraction of the sample c. obtain a...
