Meiosis I

Results in two cells that are (n+1) and two cells that are (n-1)

(Description: If homologous chromosomes fail to separate during meiosis I, the result is two gametes that lack that chromosome and two gametes with two copies of the chromosome)

Homologous chromosome fail to separate.

(Description: Nondisjunction takes place during meiosis I if homologous chromosomes don't separate, and how this can lead to the production of aneuploid gametes (eggs or sperm))

Meiosis II

Results in two abnormal cells.

(Description: If sister chromatids fail to separate during meiosis II, the result is one gamete that lacks that chromosome, two normal gametes with one copy of the chromosome, and one gamete with two copies of the chromosome.)
