Answer #1

Total number of offspring is (335 + 105 + 92 + 318) = 850

The highest two frequency of offspring indicates the parental type of gene arrangement.

Number of offspring in which crossing over takes place = (105+92) = 197

Frequency of crossing over indicates the distance between the genes which is (197/850) X 100 = 23 cM (approx).

You want to measure the distance between two linked genes in guinea pigs (hair color and nose color) . 1. You want to determine whether three prairie dog genes are linked, and if so what is the order of the genes and how many map units are they away from each other. Capital letters are dominant: L = long necked, I = short-necked, G = gray fur, g = brown fur, R = red eyes, r = pink eyes. True-breeding parentals of opposite phenotypes were bred to produce the F1 hybrids, then the F1 hybrids were test crossed to...

In guinea pigs, white coat (w) is recessive to black coat (W) and wavy hair (v) is recessive to straight hair (V). A breeder crosses a guinea pig that is homozygous for white coat and wavy hair with a guinea pig that is black with straight hair. The F1 are then crossed with guinea pigs having white coats and wavy hair in a series of testcrosses. The following progeny are produced from these testcrosses: (Hint: To test for independent assortment,...

    1) Coat color in mice is determined by several independently assorting autosomal genes. Gene A is involved in the distribution of pigment along the hair. A dominant allele (A) produces a hair color called "agouti"--the hair has dark pigment at the base and tip of each hair shaft and yellow pigment in the central portion of the shaft. Homozygous recessive mice (aa) are missing the yellow stripe and thus have solid dark-colored hair. Gene B is involved in the color...
