1. Identify the steps in purine and pyrimidine biosynthesis that involve a glutamine imidotrasfer reaction.

Ans 1) In De novo purine biosynthesis, the first and committed step is the displacement of pyrophosphate by ammonia to produce 5-phosphoribosyl-1-amine is catalyzed by the enzyme Glutamine amidotransferase.

Even in the conversion of IMP to AMP and GMP , this enzyme comes into picture. XMP (Xanthosine monophosphate) is converted to GMP (Guanosine monophosphate) by XMP-glutamine amidotransferase.
