Answer #1

a.) abc- Parental 1

+++ - Parental 2

ab+ - DCO

c++ - DCO

a++ -SCO1

cb+ -SCO1

ac+ - SCO2

b++ - SCO2

b.) Gene order can be known from taking parental and double cross over gentotypes. In the first DCO ab+, this is different from the parental genotype because it doesn't have c allele. This parental allele c is not associated with the other two parental alleles as it was in the parental allele. Therefore c is in the middle and the correct gene order is acb.

c.) Correct gene order table-

acb- P1

+++ - P2

+c+ - DCO

a++ - SCO1

+cb- SCO1

++b - SCO2

    Question 5 (14 marks) The allele cn gives fruit flies cinnabar eyes, whereas the allele cn gives red, the wild-type phenotype. The allele wx of a separate allele gives waxy wings, and wx gives non-waxy wings (wild-type). The allele b of a third gene gives fruit flies a black body, whereas the allele b gives a brown (wild-type) body colour. A geneticist knows these three genes are on the same chromosome, but does not know what order the genes are...

    Drosophila females of wild-type appearance but heterozygous for three autosomal traits are mated to males that are homozygous recessive for the three traits.  The three autosomal recessive traits are glassy eyes (g), coal-colored bodies (c), and striped thoraxes (t). The three dominant traits are red eyes (g+), gray bodies (c+) and solid thoraxes (t+) (remember, the wild-type allele has a + after it). You examine 1000 progeny of the above cross and they have the following phenotypic classes:                             265      g+c+t+                         275      gct                                     120          g+ct...
