Homologous chromosomes are used in meiosis to indicate the pairing of maternal (Homologous pair comes from the mother) and fraternal (Homologous pair comes from the father) chromosomes. Homologous chromosomes carry the same genes in the same order, but the alleles for each trait may not be the same.
