Answer #1

18. The correct answer is option D) It is an endergonic process. This statement is not true about glycolysis in anaerobic muscle because glycolysis is an exergonic process. In this process more energy is released than the amount of energy which is utilized in the reaction. Free energy is negative (delG<0) in this reaction and it indicates that glycolysis is a spontaneous reaction. So it is not an endergonic process.

Rate of glycolysis is slowed by a high [ATP]/[ADP] ratio, and it results in net synthesis of ATP and no change in NADH therefore these all statements are true about it.

19. The correct answer is option A) phosphofructokinase. Because the first committed step of glycolysis is the phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate and this step is catalyzed by phosphofructokinase (PFK). Although this is the third step of glycolysis, it is unique and first irreversible step of glycolytic pathway. Moreover, it is one of the most important regulatory step of glycolysis.

First step of glycolysis is catalyzed by hexokinase, which converts glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, this is not a committed step. Phosphoglucomutase is an enzyme which can convert alpha-D glucose-6-phosphate to alpha-D glucose-1-phosphate reversibly, this step is not under glycolysis. Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase is known as Phosphoglucoisomerase which can convert glucose-6-phosphate to fructose-6-phosphate, this is the second step of glycolysis and it is reversible also, not a committed step. Triose phosphate isomerase is an enzyme which can catalyze interconversion between two triose phosphate isomers reversibly and they are dihydroxy acetone phosphate(DHAP) and glyceraldehyde -3-phpsphate(GAP).

Recall the first three reactions in glycolysis: You’ve already learned that, in addition to proceeding through glycolysis, glucose 6-phosphate (G6P) can be used to synthesize a carbohydrate storage molecule called glycogen. Glucose 6-phosphate is also a precursor for the synthesis of nucleotides that are used to build DNA and RNA. The first step of this pathway is catalyzed by an enzyme called glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Assume that reactions in this pathway with double arrows are reversible under cellular conditions, while...

    3. True or False [ ] In glycolysis, a single glucose molecule breaks down into two molecules of pyruvate, which can then be broken down further to release ATP. Glycolysis itself releases four net molecules of ATP per molecule of glucose. [ ] The main products in glycolysis include ATP, pyruvate and NADPH. [ ] In the preparatory phase of glycolysis, ATP is invested to convert glucose to fructose 1,6-bisphosphate. The bond between C-2 and C-3 is then broken to...

Hexokinase catalyzes the first step of glycolysis, in which glucose is phosphorylated to form glucose-6-phosphate. Which of these statements are accurate? The conformational shift that occurs when glucose, but nox water, enters the active site prevents water from hydrolyzing ATP Most kinases require the presence of a monovalent metal ion cofactor to prevent ATP hydrolysis. Hexokinase transfers the terminal phosphate of ATP to carbon 3 of glucose. Hexokinase consists of two domains, or lobes, that come together when glucose and...
