Question 1

Answer-

The correct option is b. Separation of compounds in a mixture based on their solubility in immiscible solvents.

Explanation-

Extraction of compounds from a mixture can be greatly done when one solute of mixture is soluble with one solvent greatly as compare to the other solvent and vice versa. So, there must be clean and clear difference between the solubility of one solute with one solvent to the other solvent and hence the solvents that are used must be immiscible otherwise a same solute will also dissolve with the other solvent where simultaneously the other solute is dissolving and as a result a good extraction cannot be achieved.

So to achieve separation of compounds in a mixture, the use of immiscible solvents is done that led a technician or whoever trying to separate gives a choice to decide the solvents pair which depends solely on the logic that this solute (solute A) soluble in this solvent while the other solute (solute B) dissolve in the other solvent and hence an effective extraction can be achieved. The usual one is the combination of a polar and a non-polar solvent which are immiscible and due to this a polar solute will soluble in the polar solvent while non-polar solute soluble to non-polar part of solvent and a good extraction can be achieved.

Therefore, the correct option is option b. Separation of compounds in a mixture based on their solubility in immiscible solvents.

The given question is a type of question with multiple questions (question 1-6) and according to HomeworkLib guidelines under the given condition answer only the first question unless the student has specified (which is not in the given case). Thus, I answered only the first question i.e. Question-1.
