Answer #1

Given sequence - MMSF.........................VGINY (Cut here) WLAHKALCSEKLDQWLCEKL.

The aromatic amino acids are phenylalanine - F, Tryptophan - W and tyrosine - Y

pepsin cuts this protein sequence of lactalbumin in place where two aromatic amino acids are present.

So in a lactalbumin pepsin preferably cleaves between aromatic amino acids and hydrophobic amino acids. hence pepsin cuts between tyrosine and tryptophan.

In part A, yes you should reconstitute the full-length protein sequence from the fragments. However, you do not need to write out the amino acid sequence - you can just provide the order of the fragment numbers (from either set of fragments). For example (and this is not the answer), you could say: "Using the Pro-IAPP fragment set, starting from the N-terminus, the fragment order is '5-4-6-3-2-1' " and that would fully address the question. In part B, the hint...

For this assignment, we will consider a protein expressed in the liver of an African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Biochemists determined that this protein is involved in the production of glycogen. In a stunning announcement, a snowboarder in Antarctica claims to have found a new species of cheetah that is able to survive freezing temperatures and a long, dark winter. The snowboarder described a slow, fat, white-furred cheetah that may be related to the African cheetah. Scientists isolated a fragment of...
