Answer #1

SELECTIONS THAT ARE CORRECT

  • Process starts with diploid cells: As the parent cell contains 2N chromosomes and 2X DNA.
  • Sister chromatids are created: During metaphase the sister chromatids get attached to spindle fibre and during Anaphase the two sister chromatids of each chromosome separate and migrate towards the opposite pole.
  • Sister chromatids separate: During Anaphase sister chromatids get separated and migrate towards the opposite poles of the cells
  • This takes place as a part of cration of diploid cells: The daughter cells produced from the parent cell ahave same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent cell.

SELECTIONS THAT ARE INCORRECT

  • Process forms new cells: As two daughter cells are formed from parent cell at the end of mitosis.
  • No genetic diversity is observed as the daughter cells contains the same number and kind of chromosomes as that of the parent cell.
  • Homologous chromosomes does not separate as the 2N number of chromosomes are maintained till the end.

What is a major difference between mitosis and meiosis I in a diploid organism? Only meiosis I results in daughter cells that contain identical genetic information. Sister chromatids separate in mitosis; homologous pairs of chromosomes separate in meiosis I. Sister chromatids separate in mitosis; homologous pairs of chromosomes separate in meiosis II. ODNA replication takes place prior to mitosis, but not before meiosis I.
