It is seen in experiments that the proportion of cooperative/helpful individuals increase when compared to selfish ones beause -

selfish interests to reach a greater good is a good concept but is short-lived.

For Long run cooperation helps with lot of efforts as team work is important .

mutual support help in fulfilling goals .

evolutionary processes take place at the group level so being selfish and alone can not help .

cooperative individuals have higher chances of survival
