Phylum Firmicutes is associated with the digestion of carbohydrates. Our body does not digest all parts of carbohydrates. For example, cellulose is not digestible. However, if the particular microbe digests more carbohydrates, our body will get more carbs and then the body converts it into fat to get rid of extra carbs. Therefore, more Firmicutes microbes will increase more fat in the body.
