Lipoproteins transport endogenous triglycerides, phospholipids, cholesterol, and cholesteryl esters. Its function is to work as the body's internal transport mechanism for lipids. The cholesterol gets carried by plasma low-and high-density lipoproteins which cells use for processes such as membrane and steroid synthesis. Cholesteryl esters are transported in the core of plasma lipoproteins.

So option (2) is the correct one.
