Microfilament is also known as actin filament. There are three stages in its formation. First is nucleation, which occurs slowly in which formation of an actin stable nucleus occurs. Here Actin monomers are converted to stable multimers through nucleating proteins. Next step is elongation, monomers are rapidly added to each end. Last comes the steady state phase where filament assembly is enhanced.
