SIOP (Sales Inventory & Operations Planning) is the process which brings the coordination among sales, working capital, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing and distribution. This process helps to improve alignment between the production and sales. Role of this process in supply chain is –

Segmentation – It is the cross functional process. It helps in segmenting the tasks and activities. Customers, products, services or inventory all can be segmented depending upon the requirements which helps in better decision making and makes the supply chain effective.

Multi dimensional planning – This process helps in focusing on each and every area. Every aspect like finances, purchasing, resources, service levels, etc are considered and properly planned.

Control – This process helps in controlling the deviations by continuous review of activities at every stage in supply chain.
