Question 2

The purpose of genome wide association study is to identify whether the genetic variants in an individual are causing a particular and more possibly diseases. However the major theme of the genome wide association studies is to identify the genetic diseases in an individual by locating different variants of a gene.

Question 3

Average height of the students increased throughout the 20th century due to a great improvement in nutrition in that time. This could the most appealing reason because it is not possible that only tall students went to the schools and short students went to the military. The mutations are random and they occur very rarely. Even though we observed mutations we could find them at a certain location. Here we are discussing about overall students. In the 20th century agricultural facilities have enormously been developed and people got new varieties of food with improved nutritional values all over the world.

Question 4

The study that implicate the influence of environment on body weight is identifying SNPs located throughout the genome. This would be the possible reason out of the given options. In the first option there is no change in the environment of individuals. All the remaining options except the correct answer are dealing with the influence of food on body size and not the influence of environment. By studying SNPs in persons of different areas we could infer the influence of environment on genes responsible for the maintenance of body size.

Questions 5

A polygenic trait is a character which is influenced by numerous genes present in the body. Unlike the dominant and recessiveness there would be a continuous variation of phenotypic expression in polygenic trait. In this type of inheritance each gene contributes the same quantity of the trait and overall genes collectively either dominant or recessive gives the extreme phenotypes.
