In the strategic view of bargaining, it entails that bargaining should be taken as a game of sequential moves which when combined together result in an outcome. A perfect example of this can be any organization done between unions and employers. In this situation, all the necessary factors are present to have strategic bargaining. The strategic view of bargaining focuses on following the rules of the game so to speak. On the flip side, there is non-strategic bargaining which is entirely different. This form of bargaining is best used when the rules of game are less defined and in fact may not even be enforced in the first place. In this form of bargaining, you are really comparing the gains of one alternative to the gains of another. One example of this would be a lockout of some type or a walkout of any profession really. For example, often in professional sports there are times when the players union and the league do not agree on a list of terms. In this scenario often entire seasons are foregone in favor of working these things out. In this case, it is non-strategic since everyone is losing out on revenue in lieu of negotiations.
