Use law of conservation of linear momentum m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

From fiugure -1 we have 10x2+2x0 = (10+2)xv

   the velocity of the fish is v=20/12= 1.67m/s

in the second case both the fishes are moving oppositly

   10x2-2x3= (10+2)xv

14=12v

therefore the velocity after lunch is v = 14/12 = 1.17m/s
